Why I Volunteer
“I think pets not only give you unconditional love, but they have been shown to be psychologically, emotionally and physically beneficial to their companions. By helping Calgary Animal Rescue Society give cats and dogs a second chance to find permanent homes, I have found purpose. I am part of a team that helps families find their new best friend, a friend that possibly has never had a family. Seriously, what could be better than that? I’m proud to be a part of this process and to work with such a dedicated and compassionate group.”

“I volunteer with Calgary Animal Rescue Society because I enjoy helping animals from Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan to find loving homes.”

Why did I join rescue? Well it’s a simple question to answer. I started fostering many years ago looking for my (then) second dog. After two years I joined the Board Of Directors because I knew I could make a difference. Looking back at what we have accomplished from a once dark time; I’m happy to say I’ve been a big part in the rescuing of many cats and dogs over the years.

For the past 6 years my husband and I have been a foster home for dogs and mostly recently a cat. These animals come from a variety of settings and all bring a unique personality that begins to show as they learn to trust us. I’m often asked, “Isn’t it hard letting them go when they are adopted?”. I always answer the same way, “It brings me joy to know they are going to a fabulous home and now I can bring in another homeless animal and get them off the streets”.
